Episode #6: Getting the Off-Season off to a Good Start

Read the Newsletter.

In Episode #6, Meredith talks about using the winter to build a foundation for the physical fitness goals you want to achieve next summer. Now is a great time to take stock in what we have achieved in physical fitness in the past and to come up with a plan for how to achieve our goals going forward. "Shoring up our basic skills" in the off-season can be an integral part of a successful summer of physical fitness. If you are interested in triathlons, use the off-season to get more familiar with your bicycle, swimming and running skills.

There is a brief discussion about Podsafe Music: what it is and why Meredith uses it in My Inner Athlete.

The 10,000 steps program at Shapeup.org is a great way for women to start adding excercise to their day. 10,000 steps is approximately five miles. The key is to find out how many steps you take now and slowly but gradually work up to 10,000 steps a day. This a great way to keep your heart healthy and your body moving!

My Inner Athlete has a phone number and a "Mobile Minute phonecast". Call My Inner Athlete's number 408-731-6847 to leave a comment, send a "You Go, Girl!" to a listener, or make suggestions. You can also subscribe to our occasional Mobile Minute-Casts which promise to be full of tips for the day and special offers exclusive to the My Inner Athlete Listeners.

The September Project drive for Habitat for Humanity's Musician's Village in New Orleans was a success. There's still time to donate to the cause by going to the September Project Website. Donations encouraged by My Inner Athlete and September Project may even quailify as part of Dave Matthews' challenge grant where Dave promises to match donations dollar for dollar up to 1.5 million dollars.

Meredith's swim class with Olympian Dr. Jane Katz is going gangbusters! Meredith talks about how her swim strokes are improving, the fun of being in the pool and learning "The Butterfly" stroke.

Lose your Omentum! Meredith talks about a recent episode of Oprah with Dr. Oz. Curbing your calorie intake by as little as 100 calories/day can make a big difference. The key to maintaining successful eating habits is slow but gradual changes.

Music:
"Love in a Bottle" by Lee Coulter from the album Stereo Stills.
